Products Description

Overview
The forede® Brand FRD-FDC01 siamese connection is really just describes a fire department connection (FDC) featuring at least two twin female inlets that are attached at an angle to the body (hence the term "Siamese"), and the siamese connection plays an essential role in providing water to fire sprinkler and standpipe systems. Fire departments typically supply water to standpipe FDCs and then access internal hose connections to fight fires within larger buildings. Or they supply water through FDCs to supplement flow and pressure in sprinkler systems. The two Siamese-like couplings connect to supply hoses that pump water from fire engines or hydrants.

FAQ
Q: What is siamese connection?
Siamese connection is a Y shaped fire department connection with two female inlets through which firefighters can attach two hoses and refill standpipes or sprinkler systems with water.
Q: What is a siamese connection used for?
siamese connection is for firefighters to supply water to an aerial apparatus, a pumper, or a high-volume ground monitor.
Siamese connections gained traction for the first time in the 1870s. It gained attention when it made headlines after a fire claimed two lives and injured 100 people at the former Deutsche Bank in Manhattan in 2007. The contractor cut off the standpipe connections, which forced the firefighters to carry the hoses up the building stairs. The process of carrying the hoses up the building is tiresome and dangerous. This is when the use of Siamese connections started.
Q: What is the difference between a wye and a siamese connection?
Wyes are used to divide a single flow, allowing fire fighters to extend attack lines when pre-connects do not reach. Both 2-way and 3-way wye options are available. Water Thief allows fire fighters to extend attack lines from a main supply line. Siamese connection is used to combine several hose lines into one.
Q: What is the minimum diameter of a dry standpipe requiring a 2-way Siamese connection?
All 125 millimeter dry standpipes shall be equipped with a three-way Siamese fire department connection and 150 millimeters dry standpipes shall be equipped with a 2-way Siamese fire department connections.
Q: Where is the Siamese connection for?
Siamese connections are in many high rise buildings, also installed on the roof of the structure. These siamese connections are used for testing of the system, as well as identifying the ability of the street pressure, or fire pump to supply water to the top of the system.
