At the heart of Ratio Controller Foam systems lies the balanced pressure proportioning principle, which utilizes a bladder tank and a ratio controller to maintain accurate water-to-foam concentrate ratios. The bladder tank, typically constructed from carbon steel, contains an elastomeric bladder that separates water from foam concentrate. When water enters the tank under pressure, it compresses the bladder, forcing foam concentrate into the mixing chamber at a rate proportional to the water flow. The ratio controller, often integrated with a venturi orifice or differential pressure sensor, dynamically adjusts the foam concentrate flow by creating a controlled pressure drop. This ensures that even with fluctuations in water pressure or flow rate, the mixture ratio remains constant within ±5% accuracy.

For example, in fire suppression systems, a Ratio Controller Foam setup might use a 3% or 6% mixing ratio, with the controller regulating foam concentrate flow to match water input from 1 L/s to 72 L/s. The system's pressure drop is typically limited to ≤0.2 MPa to minimize energy loss while maintaining reliable operation across a 0.3–1.2 MPa working pressure range.
