How to refill foam bladder tank:
Foam bladder tanks are an essential piece of equipment in fighting fires, as they are designed to deliver foam concentrate to suppress fires. These kinds of tanks can be found in industries such as chemical plants, oil refineries, power plants, and other locations where flammable or toxic materials are present. Refilling foam bladder tanks is important to ensure that they are ready for use in case of a fire emergency. The following are steps on how to refill foam bladder tanks:
1. Preparation:
Before refilling the foam bladder tank, you need to ensure that you have all the necessary equipment. You will need protective gear such as gloves, goggles, and respiratory protection masks. You will also require a foam concentrate, water, and a pump for the refill process. Ensure proper ventilation in the area where you will be working.
2. Drain the Bladder Tank:
Open the valve to allow the foam concentrate to drain from the tank. Also, open all hose lines to completely empty it. Ensure you have diverted the foam concentrate to an appropriate location, so it does not cause any harm or clog up your drainage system.
3. Mix Water and Foam Concentrate:
Create a mix of foam concentrate and water according to the manufacturer's instructions. Add the foam concentrate to an appropriate container and add the right amount of water. Use a stick or a mechanical mixer to mix the contents thoroughly to get a homogenous mixing of foam concentrate and water.
4. Clean and Inspect:
Whilst waiting for the tank to drain, take the time to clean and inspect the bladder tank, to ensure it is still in good condition. Check for cracks or leaks, and replace any damaged parts. Cleaning the bladder tank before refilling can help remove any residue buildup and make sure air pockets are removed in the tank.
5. Refill the Tank:
Once the tank is clean and inspected, it is time to add the foam concentrate mix to the bladder tank. Ensure you are using the appropriate refill pump, pressure gauges, and hoses according to the tank's configuration. Slowly fill up the bladder tank with the foam concentrate mix. Although, never fill it above its maximum capacity.
6. Test the Tank:
After refilling with foam concentrate, test the tank to ensure that it is pressurized correctly and functioning properly. Connect the pump and hoses, and turn on the pump. Check the pressure gauge to ensure the appropriate pressure range is achieved. Also, ensure that the valve operates correctly.
7. Record Refilling:
It is important to keep a record of foam bladder tank refilling. Date, personnel's names or organization, volume of foam concentrate, tank ID number, and other relevant details should be properly documented. This ensures that there is an accurate record of the maintenance and performance history of the tank.
