What is the difference between CSMA and ESFR sprinklers?
CSMA, or Control Mode Specific Application, sprinklers are designed to use water as efficiently as possible. They are activated by heat, and release a concentrated spray of water directly onto the fire. This targeted approach helps to minimize water damage to the surrounding area, making CSMA sprinklers a good choice for facilities where water damage could be as much of a concern as fire damage.
ESFR, or Early Suppression Fast Response, sprinklers are designed to quickly extinguish a fire by releasing a large volume of water over a wider area. They are able to do this because they have larger orifices than traditional sprinkler heads, which allows them to release more water at a faster rate. This makes ESFR sprinklers particularly effective in areas with high ceilings or larger open spaces.
