How To Fill Foam Bladder Tank?

Foam bladder tanks are an essential tool for firefighting operations and can also be used to suppress flammable liquid fires. But how do you fill a foam bladder tank correctly? Here's a step-by-step guide to help you out:

Step 1

epare the foam concentrate

Before filling the foam bladder tank, ensure that the foam concentrate is mixed correctly. The foam concentrate needs to be premixed with water at the right ratio, as specified by the manufacturer. Follow the instructions carefully and make sure that the foam is mixed thoroughly.

Step 2

Connect the hoses

Once the foam concentrate is ready, connect the appropriate hoses to the foam bladder tank. Most foam bladder tanks have two inlet connections – one for water and one for foam concentrate. Make sure that all connections are secure, and the valves are open.

Step 3

Start filling the tank

Start filling the tank with water first. Monitor the tank's pressure gauge and ensure that the bladder is filling without any significant pressure build-up. Continue filling until the bladder is fully expanded and pushed against the tank's walls. The pressure gauge should show the desired pressure level specified by the manufacturer.

Step 4

Add foam concentrate

Once the bladder is full of water, it's time to add the foam concentrate. Slowly open the valve that connects the concentrate line to the bladder tank. Be careful not to introduce too much foam too quickly, as it can cause excessive pressure inside the tank.

Step 5

Monitor the foam level

As you add foam concentrate into the tank, monitor the foam level closely. The bladder should compress, and the pressure gauge should show an increase in pressure. Ensure that the foam level does not exceed the maximum filling capacity of the tank.

Step 6

Final checks

After filling the tank, perform a final check to ensure that all valves are properly secured. Make sure all hose connections are tight, and the tank is at the correct pressure level.
