There is an ancient temple, Horyuji Temple, built in 747 in Banjiuli, Nara Prefecture, Japan. It is one of the earliest wooden structures in the world, with a total construction area of 180,000 square meters. At 7 a.m. on January 26, 1949, a fire broke out here and the main hall of Jintang was destroyed. The fire was caused when a fluorescent lamp burned combustible materials in the temple during an inspection. The Golden Temple and the 12 murals in the temple are Japanese national treasures. The Horyuji Temple Fire was the costliest fire in Japanese history. In order to let people remember this historical lesson, the Japanese government's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology has stipulated that since 1955, January 26th every year will be the Japanese Cultural Relics Fire Prevention Day.
