What is gallonge hose nozzle?
Gallonage hose nozzle (often called a variable gallonage nozzle) is a type of firefighting nozzle that lets you adjust the flow rate (measured in gallons per minute, GPM) while maintaining a consistent spray pattern. It is a professional fire hose nozzle that lets firefighters quickly choose how much water flows and what pattern to use. It's not a garden nozzle - it's for fire hoses.
Key features
Gallonage: The amount of water it flows (gallons per minute, GPM).
Selectable: You twist/turn a dial or collar to pick a flow rate (30, 60, 95, GPM).
Nozzle: Attaches to a fire hose (usually 1.5" or 2.5").
Patterns: Typically switches between straight stream (long reach) and wide fog.

Operation Instruction
Gallonage hose nozzle is used to control and adjust the water flow rate (GPM – gallons per minute) during firefighting operations. It allows firefighters to choose the required discharge volume depending on fire conditions.
Step 1: Attach the nozzle securely to the fire hose coupling and ensure there are no leaks.
Step 2: Verify that the pump pressure matches the nozzle's operating pressure (commonly 100 psi / 7 bar).
Step 3: Rotate the gallonage control ring on the nozzle to choose the required flow setting, such as: 30 GPM, 60 GPM, 95 GPM, 125 GPM, Flush (for cleaning debris). NOTE: Choose based on fire size, available water supply, type of hazard, crew safety requirements.
Step 4: Slowly open the bale handle (or shutoff lever) to start water flow.
- Forward = Open
- Backward = Close
- (depends on nozzle design)
- Open gradually to reduce reaction force.
Step 5: Twist the nozzle head to change between:
- Straight Stream (long reach, penetration)
- Narrow Fog (cooling, ventilation support)
- Wide Fog (heat protection, vapor suppression)
Step 6: If debris blocks the nozzle:
- Rotate to "Flush"
- Allow water to clear obstruction
- Return to desired gallonage setting
Noted:
- Always maintain a firm grip due to nozzle reaction force
- Never change gallonage abruptly under unstable conditions
- Ensure team communication before flow changes
- Use proper PPE during operation
